Nie za bardzo wiem, jak zacząć, więc powiem wprost - nasza wspólna linuksowa przygoda w Bramie dobiega końca. Projekt Linux w Bramie zostaje z dniem dzisiejszym zawieszony; prawdopodobnie niedługo oficjalnie zakończony.

To były fantastyczne cztery niemal lata. Dziękuję Wam za ten czas i za frajdę wspólnego robienia Różnych Fajnych Rzeczy. Chętnie pociągnąłbym to dalej, i dalej, i jeszcze dalej, ale...

Powodów jest wiele.

Raz, że ja po prostu nie daję rady ogarnąć wszystkiego. Mam coraz więcej obowiązków w FWiOO; coraz więcej się dzieje wokół Warszawskiego Hackerspace'a (który - mam nadzieję - będzie w stanie docelowo urządzać podobną imprezę jeżeli nie cały czas, to przynajmniej raz w tygodniu). Organizacja LwB z mojej strony kuleje od jakiegoś czasu, to chyba wiemy. Czas, bym przestał się oszukiwać.

Dwa, że jak niektórzy z Was wiedzą ...

Upgrades

Trac supports i18n now (accomplished through Babel,  http://babel.edgewall.org), so if you browse the site with Accept-Language header you'll see menus in your language.

On Google, H.264 and Openness

Well, seems like everyone these days can write about Google's dropping of H.264 support in Chrome - so let's have another perspective, shall we?

I'll be specifically referring to  Ars Technica's article on the topic.

Ars' main premise is that dropping of H.264 in Chrome is a step backwards for openness, because:

  1. keeps video streaming on the web in the completely proprietary flash rather than open <video> tag plus a codec;
  2. H.264 is an open standard, as it's standardized with ISO and ITU;
  3. WebM/Theora are not such standards;
  4. specifically, WebM is owned by Google, which is dangerous;
  5. WebM/Theora can be patent-encumbered too, infringing on some of the H.264-related patents.

Okay, let's take it from the bottom.

Meetings

Linux w Bramie (LwB in short) are monthly meetings with  Linux and  Free Software.

Meetings are held on the last Friday of each month.

Next meeting is taking place in September, date will be announced in due time.

We meet in the conference room of  BRAMA Laboratory (basement, room 039) on the  WUT's Faculty of Electronics and Information Technology.
